My Staycation At The New Best Western Premier Ion Delemen Hotel \\ #TehChamLee

Dex and I were invited for a 3 days 2 nights stay at the new Best Western Premier Ion Delemen Hotel located at Genting Highlands. We are actually pretty glad that there's a hotel that's not specifically located at the peak but at the same time, close enough to travel up and down from the peak.

As much as Dex and I do enjoy the mountain weather of Genting Highlands, our issue has always been the peak being too crowded for us to stay while the ones below are a little too far from the peak because we'll still want to spend some of our time at SkyAvenue and other facilities at the peak.

The Best Western Premier Hotel is just perfect. It's only 10 minutes drive from the peak and they even provide reliable free shuttle service for their guest. This hotel oozes a luxurious feel yet able to keep the rooms/suites feeling homey. You'll see the pictures of the rooms further down this blogpost. The food, overall, is pretty good. Kembali Kitchen's breakfast buffet does Malaysian food pretty well, we definitely enjoyed their breakfast spread. Hugo's In The Sky serves wonderful Mediterranean dishes in an environment with magnificient view. I've reviewed our Hugo's In The Sky dinner session here.

In this blogpost, I'll run you through what we did throughout our staycation at the Best Western Premier Hotel. If you prefer more visuals, check out our vlog below:

Upon arriving, we head over to Kembali Kitchen for lunch. Kembali Kitchen is a huge dining area that's also the breakfast buffet area for guest. They also do serve lunch and dinner but either ala carte or set meals. However, Dex and I personally do enjoy their Breakfast spread very much as they do really good Malaysian food, such as the nasi minyak, sambal, curry, rendang, mee mamak, and etc. Of course, they have the usual international spread such as pastries, cereal, pancakes, sausages and more but the fact that they can get our very own Malaysian food to taste good, we are impressed as we know a few other luxury hotels that can't even get it right. So good job, Best Western Premier Breakfast team!

Day 1 - Lunch - Chinese Set Meal - Kembali Kitchen

For lunch, we were served with Chinese home cooked style set meal, halal of course. They have two set menus and both sets are inclusive of plain rice and chinese tea.

8 Person - RM399

  • Oyster Omelette
  • Sambal Petai with Prawn
  • Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet
  • Stir Fried Egg Plant with Salted Fish
  • Ginger Honey Chicken
  • Kung Poh Squid
  • Superior Chicken Soup with Fish Maw

4 Person - RM188

  • Stir Fried Kangkung with Belacan
  • Wok-Fried Prawn Omelette
  • Kung Poh Chicken in Yam Basket
  • Braised Beancurd with Seafood in Claypot
  • Doubl-boiled Herbal Chicken Soup
  • Fresh Fruit Platter

For me, I've been eating these kinds of Chinese food almost all my life and I guess I would know if these Chinese set meals are any good. In my opinion, there's nothing to shout about. For a halal Chinese set meal, it's alright but I've tasted much better Chinese dishes than these. I strongly believe it's probably due to the fact that it's missing my favourite meat, pork, and some Chinese rice wine in some dishes.

Thus, I would only recommend these Chinese set meals if you are not a Malaysian growing up with non-halal Chinese meals.

Hotel Tour

After lunch, we had the opportunity to check out all the available type of rooms and facilities that's available so far in Best Western Premier Hotel. I won't provide much details here as you could get more information from their official website but I'll just highlight a few things about them.

To me, after touring the suites, I feel that they are very much a family friendly hotel. It's like it's made for family with kids or families that comes in a big group. They have one, two, and three bedroom suites. They all have that condo style feel to it with kitchen cabinets (except deluxe room), tiled flooring instead of carpets, and spacious living room. Some bathroom do have bathtubs, I'm not quite sure which type of room but I know the 3-bedroom suite that I stayed in has a bathtub in the bathroom attached to the master bedroom.

If you don't want to live in the same suite yet still want to be close to your family members or friends, they do have rooms that are separated with your own attached bathroom and your own privacy but share the same external access. If you watch the video, I've shown a clip where I entered into a walkway that ultimately splits into two hotel room or suite that require separate access card.

Even though the weather is usually cold up there, they still installed A/C in most rooms. We thought we'll never use them and leave the window open for the breeze but surprisingly, some afternoon can get a little warm.

Also, I'm one that's get chilly easily, thus, the non carpet floor is not ideal for me as it gets really cold during the night, but I just wear the provided hotel slipper throughout my stay. Personally, I don't prefer carpets as it's much hygienic in general and better for my sensitive nose. Additionally, it's also probably better for families with kids where spills are prone to happen. Thus, it's such a family friendly hotel.

A little garden area

Indoor Swimming Pool

My first ever experience in a heated swimming pool that uses salt instead of chlorine. Yes, the water tasted a little salty (I've accidentally tasted it), but just a little. The heated pool is warm but I would have preferred the temperature to be a little higher, because I shower in crazy hot water, but it was just perfect temperature for Dex. Thus, it's just preference. I'll still swim in it.

They provide towel and bathrobe (or they call it kimonos) that you can bring them back to your room. Sweet. Oh you'll need it for sure if your hotel room is like mine that's not in the same building. Of course, there's shower provided the pool area but why not shower in the comfort of your hotel room.

Gym. Their gym was great. I've added a few clips of the gym in the video. Dex and I used their gym a couple of hours before we checked-out of the hotel. We wanted to get some fats burned after all the eating we did during the trip. We both loved their machines and they have a good range of machines for real gym freaks. They are very "high-tech" as compared to the ones I've tried in most gyms, and clean.

Day 1 - Dinner - Hot Pot - Kembali Kitchen

Hallelujah~! The weather was really cold that night and while on our way to the restaurant, we were all saying that it would be amazing if we could have steamboat for dinner. I guess dreams do come true after all. We had hot pot for dinner! Again, this is a halal hot pot, thus, the taste is milder than the regular Chinese steamboat style. Most of the ingredients are pretty fresh, such as their prawns, beef, fish, and chicken.

It's not the tastiest hot pot I've ever tried but it was good enough to satisfy our cravings for hot soup when it's cold outside. It's available daily from 6.30pm to 10.30pm at RM52 nett per person (minimum 2 person). If the regular set is not enough, you can always add on your favourite ingredients with additional cost.

After dinner, we decide to drop by SkyAvenue for a walk to see the new place for the first time. It was really nice and they have so many of my favourite and familiar food and beverages stalls, such as llao llao and go noodles. It doesn't feel as limited anymore as compared to a few years back. We drove up instead of taking the shuttle as the shuttle bus service last trip is at 12am. We "youngsters" decided to be cool and stayed till 1am. Lols, it's probably not that late, but we know we have Team Building the next day, thus, better get some rest.

Team Building

Another first for me, team building outdoors in such a beautiful weather and amazing view. It might not seem like a lot but it was a fun session. We enjoyed ziplining towards the edge of the cliff and walking on metal ropes. It's only RM30 per pax a morning worth of activity with your family or friends. The instructors were really helpful and patient with all the funny nonsense we had that day.

Day 2 - Lunch - Claypot Delight (Seasonal) - Kembali Kitchen

After all that jazz outdoors, we were screaming for lunch. This time they served us a seasonal menu of Claypot Delight. So far, according to them, it's only available till 30th September 2017. The dishes was prepared by Chef Wong.

What we had were Loh See Fun (RM18), Chicken Rice (RM18), Fish Curry (RM25), Sang Har Mee (RM35), and Sang Har Glass Noodle (RM35). I think the curry and noodles were pretty good, but the Chicken Rice's rice is a little too soft, making the whole dish a little mushy. For RM18, this claypot chicken rice is not up to my standard.

Literally after lunch, it was time for nap. We also squeezed in a little swimming time just to experience the heated pool and hoping to get some "exercise".

Day 2 - Dinner - Fine Dining - Hugo's In The Sky

I've wrote about this Food Review in a separate blogpost because I felt it was worthy of a blogpost on its own. I find this bar and restaurant is a fantastic place for proposals, anniversary, date night, or even just wanting to enjoy good food in a fine environment. The food was overall really good but we have a few favourites or must-try. This place is definitely worth the try!

Check out my food review of Hugo's In The Sky here.

After dinner, we sit and chill at the outdoor section of the bar to enjoy the breeze and had a lovely conversation. The next day, after a short gym session, we checked-out of the hotel and head over to Genting Premium Outlet for a little shopping as well as Gohtong Jaya for late lunch before heading back home.

Overall, I had a pleasant stay at the Best Western Premier Ion Delemen Hotel. It was peaceful yet conveniently only 10 minutes away from Genting Highlands' peak. Personally, I highly recommend this hotel to everyone who travels in a big group, families, or even just anyone who prefers a less crowded hotel. This is the place to be.
