7-Course Creative Cuisine At Only RM78?!

Don't know where to bring your partner for a cozy dinner date? Try this new place in 1Utama Shopping Centre (old wing)! MARCO Creative Cuisine oozes a fine dining feel without burning a hole in your pocket and it is also a calming oasis in the midst of a busy mall.

This 62-seater restaurant offers Chef Daren's unique culinary creations in a hand crafted, multi-course menu that uses fresh produce with a Western influence but not confined by cooking styles and cultures. This 7-course creative cuisine is themed as The Journey of Flavours and each dish is made from scratch, from the stock making and in-house poultry butchery.

Do check out a brief video review below of the place and food by #TehChamLee, otherwise, I have also penned my thoughts of some of the dishes further down this blogpost.

Above is the full menu as of 13th April 2017 but the menu may change after a couple of months. I was actually pretty impressed with the variety in the menu, you really get to pick and choose your own preferred dishes and they seem to have a pretty good selection. They have 3 choices for Soup, Entree, Desserts and Drinks, and 6 choices for Mains. Additionally, you can choose to add on a la carte if you want more food.

Below are some of the dishes we've tasted.

Palate Cleanser
Velvety Matcha-Lime Shooter - Velvety Matcha-Lime foam covering a chilled Lime Snow
I ate this without having a clue of what it was and the sourness of the lime really hit me and it was bloody amazing. I mixed the matcha into the ice at the bottom (like a mini bingsu) to let the lime mask the flavour of the matcha as I'm not much of a matcha fan.

Appetiser
Savoury Eclair - Gruyere Flavoured Pate a Choux decorated with Aubergine Caviar, Green Chile Pesto and Tomato Confit.
I have no freaking idea what exactly is this but it was okay. It tasted like a crunchy snack with flavourful dipping sauce, but decorated beautifully.

Soup
Truffled Mushroom Soup - A Plant-based Creamy Mushroom Soup infused with Truffle Oil
I went for the classic because I love mushroom soup and I love Truffle oil. It's not thick in consistency and they were pretty generous with their truffle oil. It's nice to me but I know some might find the truffle oil scent a little overpowering.

Soup
French Onion Soup - Caramelised Onions Broth accompanied by French Toast
Dex's choice of soup and he was quite happy with it. The fresh toast itself wasn't sweet but the onions as caramelised to perfection, making the thick "soup" wonderfully sweet and savoury at the same time.

Entree
Savoury Ice Cream Salad - Assorted Baby Leaves, heirloom Tomato, seasonal Microgreens and Violet flowers served with savoury Ice Cream
When it first arrived the table, we were rather mean and said "Where's the other half of our salad?!". Lols. Typical Malaysians. Though, this actually turned out to be our favourite salad dish as it was truly a new flavour experience for the both of us. You might find it odd on the first bite but the flavour grew on us and we kept wanting for more. Who knew that the ice cream made out of milk and salt could be such a delight to our tastebuds!

Entree
Garden Plater - Fresh mixed greens planted on top of Edible Soil and Bribiche Sauce (French Tatar Sauce)
It was my choice, yet another familiar dish and also I didn't wanted chicken liver as my entree. It's was nicely plated and I love how visually appealing this dish is, but after tasting the Savoury Ice Cream Salad, this becomes nothing special. Only order if you are not adventurous.

Main
Salmon with Jet Black Hollandaise - Atlantic salmon with squid ink hollandaise, garnished with pickled beetroot and green chile pesto
We love salmon but it can be a little tricky at times when it comes to cooking this excellent source of omega-3 fish. We were very happy with how it turned out, salmon was well cooked, well seasoned, and it's a pretty big piece of salmon, quite worth the 78 bucks if you order this as main.

Main
Chicken Roulade with Brussels Sprouts - A roulade of juicy chicken thigh with crunchy brussels sprouts, and flavourful chicken jus.
We completely understand that a roulade cooking method may result in chicken meat looking rather reddish but it wasn't really our thing, thus we actually requested the kitchen to cook it further for us and we were extremely glad that they pan grilled it for us to suit our preference better. I think the chicken dish is quite nice but if I had the choice to reorder, I probably would have gone with the Duck Breast with Orange Puree and Roasted Beetroot because everyone is raving about it. Besides that, if you want something more filling, the Squid Ink Japonica Rice is pretty good too.

Desserts
Creme Brulee with White Chocolate Sherbet - Lush egg custard accompanied by white chocolate sherbet and meringue kisses.
Dex really like this a lot and I do agree, it's a good creme brulee. It's not too sweet and I personally think it should be consumed on its own. Let the white chocolate ice cream be a completely separate dessert.

Desserts
Deconstructed Lemon Meringue Pie - technically plated with elements of lemon curd, passion fruit gel, Italian meringue and white chocolate sherbet
All I see was a PIE, and when it came, I was wondering where the heck is my PIE?! Lols, I totally missed out the DECONSTRUCTED word. Anyway, I quite like this. It's overall rather sweet, especially from the Italian meringue, thus perfect for people with sweet tooth.

We also had french press coffee, which was amazing, and sparkling iced berry, which was okay. Overall, it was an interesting experience. We surprised ourselves by liking something new (the Savoury Ice Cream Salad) and had a good meal with great desserts at a fancy yet casual environment. Is it worth the RM78? Absolutely yes, if you pick the right dishes for yourself. Was it filling? Yes, it does fills the tummy for an average eater. Don't underestimate the tiny appetiser and entree, I think the portion is just nice for a 7-course meal.
