5 Skin Care Tips for Busy Women
Being busy isn’t an excuse for not taking
care of your skin. It doesn’t take a lot of hard work to take steps towards
caring for your skin in spite of a busy working schedule. Here are my top 5
skin care tips for busy women!
1. Clean
out your skin care closet
You already have so much to think about in
life and staring at a cabinet full of different skin care products can be a bit
overwhelming at times.
Most women have two (or more!) of
everything, two types of cleanser, two types of toners, moisturisers, etc.
Well, I’m guilty and have been found with three of each item...and wait till
you see my glorious mask collection!
Skin care is supposed to help you feel
better about your skin, not to bog you down and suffocate you with so many
options. It’s time to pare down your routine because you only need a few key
items to keep your skin healthy.
First of all, throw out all the expired
products. Then, throw out those products that might look spoiled or smells
weird – anything where the water has separated from the product and is resting
on top – is a sign of spoiled product. Lastly, just like clothes, throw out
those you don’t use regularly. Or else, find another way to use it. For
example, I have several moisturisers that my face is not a big fan of, and end
up using these products as my hand and body lotion. Hey, at least the nutrients
in those moisturisers are put to good use.
2. Have
a simple morning routine that you will stick to
Go back to basics, using four products that
take about three minutes in total to use. The steps are: cleanse, tone,
moisturise and apply sunscreen. Leave all products that repair and correct your
skin’s flaws for the night, it works better while you sleep anyway.
I’ve been using SK-II as part of my routine
and you can read about my experiences here
and here.
Check out SK-II for a simple holistic skin care
regimen that takes your lifestyle and specific skin concerns into
consideration.
3. Use
multi-tasking skin care products
I’m not an advocate of all-in-one,
do-everything miracle products because there really isn’t one that is legit but
I’m a believer in multi-tasking products. For example, a tinted moisturiser
that comes with light to medium coverage, high SPF and yet is able to give you
that additional hydration on top of using a moisturiser is an invention worth
taking seriously.
4. Take care of skin from the inside
Your skin care products may be miracle
workers but eating right and staying hydrated is the easiest way to keep your
skin healthy. That means drinking at least eight glasses of water every day and
eating foods that are anti-inflammatory and contain lots of anti-oxidants. Also
eat lots of low glycemic index foods such as salads, bright red and green
vegetables, omega-3-rich salmon, avocados, olive oil and blueberries. Your skin
is a projection of what is going on internally – if you don’t eat healthily,
your skin will be the first to tattle on you.
5. Never
go to bed with makeup on
Keep a pack of cleansing wipes by your bed
for those emergency days when you are too exhausted to drag yourself to the bathroom.
There should be no excuse for going to bed without cleansing, at the very least
clean any part of your skin that has makeup on (foundation, eyeshadow,
eyebrows) because it can clog pores and make your skin age faster.
